Everybody Wins! Vermont - for grades 1-5

Everybody Wins! Vermont (EW!) is a children's literacy and mentoring organization dedicated to encouraging positive attitudes about reading in elementary school children. Everybody Wins! Vermont, launched in 2000, is part of the Everybody Wins! national organization. The program offered at BCEMS is the Everybody Wins! Power Lunch.

The Power Lunch Program is simple:
Once per week during the school year, the volunteer comes to the school to meet with a student reading partner, eat lunch and read together.
EW! coordinates the Power Lunch program every Tuesday and Thursday, from October to May. EW! provides books and enrichment activities.

Components of the Everybody Wins! Power Lunch:
One-on-one reading and conversation
Tuesdays and Thursdays during student lunch times

By matching caring adult role models with students referred by school staff or parents, we promote reading for pleasure, build self-confidence and enhance self-esteem in the children. Our studies showed that students participating in the Power Lunch program were more likely to show improvement in their attention span, enjoyment of reading and overall academic performance as compared to their peers not in the program.
