STUDENTS ON THE MOVE

7th and 8th grade student are moving and grooving!! Students have created a new group called STUDENTS ON THE MOVE. Students are strengthening their leadership skills by getting involved with their school and community through service learning.  Students on the Move, is replacing student council. Many students felt that running for student council was more of a popularity contest than a process for students who wanted to really make a difference in their school and community. Students felt if there was an open process to be a member of Students on the Move then more ideas, spirit and energy would bring on great change for the school and community.

Students On The Move will be taking on projects such as Toy Joy, Penny’s for Patients, and open gym night they will develop an outline for projects that they feel will benefit their school but also their community. Students will meet weekly and sometimes more depending on their projects.

Projects that have happened so far: fundraising dance for Red Cross Flood relief ($698.00 raised), Red Ribbon week which included a food drive to donate to the stuff a truck (8 boxes of food).

If you have further questions or ideas you would like the students to take a look at please call Dawn Poitras, 476-6541.
