Dear Parents/Guardians of Barre students:

To support the State Standard that each
Vermont student read 25 books (or equivalent) each year, we ask each student to document his or her reading.  All students are expected to read a minimum of FIVE books over the summer, including both fiction and nonfiction. Then for each quarter during the school year, they will read 5 books.
The summer reading booklet provides a way for your child to record each book read. Your child is to complete write-ups for books read this summer. He or she may choose from the forms in the booklet to complete the write-ups. Number of write-ups required is as follows:
Grade 4:         2 write-ups (choose any 2 pages)
Grade 5:         3 write-ups (choose any 3 pages)
Grade 6-8:     5 write-ups (choose 5 pages)

The booklet is to be turned in to your child’s new teacher, on the first day of school and will be a part of his or her reading grade for the first quarter. (See scoring rubric)
Have a wonderful summer, and keep on reading.
Thank You,

Heather Herzig, Barre Town Librarian
Stephanie McMahan, Barre City Librarian
Karen Heath, Literacy Coordinator
