Welcome to Barre City Elementary and Middle School!
Barre City Elementary and Middle School currently enrolls over 800 students in grades pre-K through eight.
We envision a dynamic PK-8 school that challenges all students and staff to be caring and contributing members of our society, learning to work together in cooperative and productive teams. We strive for high standards of performance, both academically and behaviorally, for all members of our school community. We see an active, busy, hands-on, creative environment where both staff and students are engaged in meaningful learning experiences. The learning experiences should follow a logical progression that is developmentally appropriate and where students can see the connections among the traditional fields of discipline. We want all members of our school community to feel safe, not just safe from physical harm, but free to respectfully express their own individuality.
The Barre City community previously educated its children in seven different neighborhood schools, including: Ayers Street, Brook Street, Lincoln, North Barre, Mathewson, Ward 5, and Spaulding Graded. After a great deal of thought and consideration, the Barre community decided to consolidate the neighborhood schools into one location, which was built and opened at the beginning of the 1995 school year.
The Barre City community has supported its children and school facility by passing school budgets and participating in helping to educate our students through the PTO, the Mentors Program, volunteers, family nights, math events, movie night, literacy night, sports events, book fair, tutoring, the community art show, numerous after school programs and in countless other ways.
The staff, faculty, and administration of Barre City Elementary and Middle School thank you for your support!
