I proudly joined BCEMS in 2018 as the elementary principal. Since the start, we have worked hard to engage our learners, and have added several new programs to improve student learning and outcomes. This includes a full-time elementary health program, two restorative classrooms helping learners who have different learning styles, and moved to 1 to 1 device distribution.
I grew up locally in Williamstown VT, graduating from Williamstown high school in 2002. I attended the University of Vermont, earning a Bachelor's degree in 2006. I then enrolled I’m the graduate program of education at Johnson State College earning a Master’s degree in 2008. I began my teaching career in Portland Oregon as a special educator within an alternative school. In 2011 I completed a Master’s degree in Special Education from Portland State University and shortly after, returned to Vermont as a math teacher at Williamstown middle school. In 2018 I completed the Upper Valley Educators Administration program and earned licensure as a principal.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, sports, and the outdoors. I continue to play on a men’s basketball team and have ridden my bicycle across the United States…twice.
Hello, my name is Pierre Laflamme and I am the Middle School Principal at Barre City Elementary and Middle School. This is my sixth year in the district and my first in this new role. I attended UVM and Johnson State College for my undergraduate degree, earned a Master's degree in Education from Johnson State, and have continued my education since at Lyndon State College and the University of Colorado (Pueblo). My friends jokingly have called me the "professional student." Over more than two decades in education, I have taught across all grades and through many disciplines.
When not working in this community I enjoy being active outdoors with my family. Hiking is a particular passion of mine and I love exploring the trails, hills, and mountains near my home in Barre City.
Hi! My name is Olivia Kane and I am the Assistant Principal at Barre City Elementary and Middle School. This is my first year working in Barre, and I'm so excited to meet new students, families, and staff! I attended the University of Vermont and earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I then went on to teach in New York City and in the Boston area before returning to Vermont. In 2019, I began working in South Burlington as a classroom teacher, while completing my Master's degree in Education Leadership and Policy Studies. I have loved learning so much from my students as a teacher, and I can't wait to see what being Assistant Principal has in store!
In my free time, I love traveling, adventuring outside, and spending time with my family (particularly my two very cute nephews) and friends.
I have worked at BCEMS since 2009. I joined the staff as a special educator, and recently moved to the position of Assistant Director of Special Services. My practice is whole-child centered, recognizing that social/emotional learning is as important as academics.
I grew up in Chittenden County, but moved to Central Vermont to begin my career and raise a family. Prior to beginning my career in education, I worked in the legal field as a records manager and paralegal. I returned to school and received my Masters of Education in 2009 and my National Board Certification in 2018.
Outside of school, I enjoy knitting, playing board games with my sons, exploring new swimming holes and nature trails, watching The Great British Baking Show, and learning something new every day.
