VSAC Talent Search

Who We Are

The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) is unique in its scope and role. Created by the Vermont Legislature in 1965 as a public nonprofit agency, we advocate for students and their families to ensure that they have the information, the counseling and the financial aid to achieve their education goals.

We begin by helping families save for education. Our counselors work with students in nearly every Vermont middle school and high school, and again as adults. Our financial aid programs attract national recognition, and our loan programs and loan forgiveness programs are saving Vermont families thousands of dollars in interest.

Our vision is to create opportunities for all Vermont students, but particularly for those—of any age—who believe that the doors to higher education are closed to them.

What VSAC Offers at BCEMS

1.) VSAC Talent Search

The VSAC Talent Search program is geared towards first generation, limited income, college-bound students from grades 6-12.  Students must be willing to meet monthly with their Talent Search Outreach Counselor and engage in activities designed to support their academic, career, and post-secondary success.  This is a Free program for students that assists eligible students in college and career exploration, financial aid assistance, possible trips to college fairs and college tours, and other customized services to help students understand all their post-high school opportunities.

2.) Aspirations

VSAC’s Aspirations Project goal is to build a school’s capacity to graduate all students with a plan for obtaining the education or training needed to achieve their life goals.

Who is your VSAC Talent Search Counselor?

Chelsea Martin is a former Talent Search student and graduate of Twinfield Union High School and the University of Vermont. She enjoys hiking with her husband and Golden Retriever Abby, camping, being outside, and working hard for students and her community! Since Abby is a registered therapy dog, she can sometimes be found making her rounds at Spaulding High School or BCEMS with Chelsea.
